Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has etched his name in the record books once again by becoming the Indian bowler with the most Test wickets in Asia. Ashwin achieved this remarkable feat by reaching 420 wickets in Asia, surpassing Anil Kumble (419 Wickets), and joining an elite group of bowlers who have taken over 400 wickets in the region
In his illustrious career spanning 102 Test matches, Ashwin has claimed 523 wickets, with his performances in Asia being particularly dominant. On Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Ashwin took the crucial wicket of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. The left-handed batter was trapped LBW by a delivery that didn’t turn, marking Ashwin’s seventh wicket in the series.
Ashwin, who is also the series' top wicket-taker, bowled with his usual precision, coming around the wicket to dismiss Shanto. The delivery went straight on, and Shanto, playing for the turn, missed it, resulting in his dismissal. Despite reviewing the decision, Shanto had no luck, leaving Ashwin to celebrate his record-breaking moment.
With 420 wickets in Asia, Ashwin joins Muthiah Muralidaran and Anil Kumble in the prestigious 400+ wickets club in the continent.
