Peshawar Zalmi has been hit with a Covid-19 outbreak after at least 5 members of their franchise tested positive for the virus ahead of their game against Lahore Qalandars.
Peshawar Zalmi played their last game of the group stage against Peshawar Zalmi on Monday in which the Wahab-led team won the Super Over.
Usman Qadir and Ben Cutting are reportedly the two players who have tested positive for Covid-19. Batting coach Hashim Amla and two other members of the team also tested positive.
All five members have been isolated by Pakistan Super League (PSL) management and will undergo another Covid-19 test after three days. They are temporarily banned from participating for the rest of the tournament. They are allowed to become active again if they return a negative result in their next round of testing.
Legendary South African batter Hashim Amla, Zalmi's mentor, is also said to have contracted the virus.
Commentator Danny Morrison also tested positive for the virus a few days ago and has since been in isolation after returning a positive result. The Multan Sultans security officer had also previously tested positive.
While positive testing has heavily influenced Zalmi's combination, there is no need to worry as there are enough substitutes available to field a competitive XI. Zalmi has already booked his place in the PSL play-offs and is expected to face Islamabad United in the first elimination game on Thursday 24 February at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.
This means both players will miss the playoffs due to protocols and will be available if Peshawar Zalmi qualifies for the HBL PSL 2022 finals.
