This is South Africa's ninth 10-wicket margin victory in Test cricket. Sri Lanka, who were 150/4 with five-run lead, collapsed to 211 allout in 56.5 overs in their second innings. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne hit his 10th Test hundred - 103 runs from 128 balls with 19 boundaries. The collapse started with the captain pulling Anrich Nortje's short ball into the hands of Wiaan Mulder's hands at square-leg. With no real support, the tourists could only get a lead of 66 runs after handing 145-run deficit in the first innings. Lungi Ngidi bagged 4 wickets for 44 runs while Lutho Sipamla took 3/40. Elgar, who made a ton in the first innings, was adjudged the player of the match as well as the player of the series for scoring 253 runs, the most. The win takes South Africa to have another 60 points in the Test championship. They are now No.5 in the table with 40% points. The Proteas (96 points, No.5) have also displaced Sri Lanka (86 points, No.6) in the ICC Test rankings.
