Former cricketer S. Sreesanth was charged with cheating along with two others after a complaint was lodged by a resident of Kannur district in Kerala.


Police have opened a cheating case against cricketer S. Sreesanth and two others based on a complaint lodged by a man in northern Kerala's Kannur district.

The complainant, a native of Choonda, alleged that the accused Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini collected ₹18.70 lakh on various dates from April 25, 2019 by claiming that they were setting up a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka the cricketer Sreesanth is a partner.

Gopalan alleged in his complaint that he invested the money on the basis of a promise to become a partner in the proposed sports academy. The accused trio, which includes Sreesanth, are charged under Section 420 of the IPC, which relates to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

This development makes Sreesanth the third accused in the case. The allegations point to a fraudulent real estate deal that has resulted in legal consequences for the cricketer and his associates.

The Kannur Judicial First Class District Court took up the case and ordered an investigation into the allegations.

The case was registered under Section 420 of the IPC for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
