In the ongoing second Test between India and New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune, Virat Kohli's struggles with the bat continued. The former India captain, who has been under scrutiny for his recent performances, was dismissed LBW for 17 runs off 40 balls by New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner in India's second inning.
Kohli, who walked in to bat at his usual No. 4 spot, initially looked comfortable, defending well and even striking a couple of beautiful boundaries. However, his stay at the crease was cut short in the 30th over by Santner.
The left-arm spinner bowled a length ball that skidded off the surface, surprising Kohli with its pace. It was an arm ball that slid quickly and struck the Indian batter on the back pad as he tried to flick it off the back foot.
The on-field umpire immediately raised his finger for an LBW, but Kohli opted for a review. Unfortunately, the ball-tracking technology confirmed that it was an umpire’s call on leg stump, meaning Kohli had to make the long walk back to the pavilion.
The replays showed that the ball would have clipped the leg stump, leaving Kohli with no option but to accept his fate. He ended his innings with 17 runs off 40 balls, which included two boundaries.
