Karun Kaladharan Nair (born 6 December 1991) is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Karnataka in domestic cricket and the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He is a right-handed hitter and occasional off-break bowler. He is the only Indian second batsman to have scored a triple century in Test cricket.
Early and Personal Life
Karun was born on December 6, 1991 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His parents Kaladharan Nair and Prema Nair are from Chengannur in Alappuzha district of Kerala. Kaladharan, a mechanical engineer, was based in Jodhpur at the time of his son's birth and later moved with his family to Koramangala, Bangalore, where he also worked on the sprinkler system at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Nair's mother, Prema, is a teacher at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bangalore. Karun has an older sister, Shruthi Nair.
Born prematurely, Karun's parents were advised by doctors to introduce their son to exercise as part of the treatment for his weak lungs. Nair joined Koramangala Cricket Academy on March 28, 2001, a year after his family moved to Bengaluru and trained under Shivanand. He studied at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, where his mother was educated through fourth grade, and then transferred to Frank Anthony Public School for better cricket opportunities. He studied BCom (Hons) at Jain University in Bangalore. He is fluent in several languages: English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil. His native language is Malayalam.
Karun Nair Wife Karun announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Sanaya Tankariwala, a media professional, on June 29, 2019 through his social media handles. The couple married in a private ceremony in Udaipur, Rajasthan on January 19, 2020. The couple announced a pregnancy in July 2021.
Domestic Career
Nair made his top-flight debut in the 2013–14 season in which Karnataka won the Ranji Trophy. Karun Nair 300 He scored three straight centuries in their last league game and first two knockout games. Karnataka won the title again in 2014–15, with Nair hitting 709 runs in his ten games, including a 328 knockout in the final against Tamil Nadu to help Karnataka record an innings win. He became only the second player from Karnataka to score a triple century and the first batsman to score a triple century in a Ranji final since 1946–47. It was the highest total by a batsman in the Ranji Trophy Finals.
In October 2018 he was named to the India A squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy. The following month he was named as one of eight players to be watched ahead of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy. In August 2019, he was named to the India Red squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy. International Career
Nair made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe on 11 June 2016 at Harare Sports Club. He made his Test debut against England in Mohali on 26 November 2016. He scored his first Test century in the final game of the series at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, failing to finish 303. He was then only three innings old in international cricket, becoming the fastest batsman to reach a first three hundred in the history of Test cricket in terms of number of games played. He was India's second triple centurion after Virender Sehwag and only the third man in the game's history to convert a first test tone into a triple. India won the match by one innings and 75 runs and Nair was named player of the match.
