The Melbourne Stars have brought in former England and current Nottinghamshire manager Peter Moores to manage the trophy-less BBL club for the next two seasons.
The Melbourne Stars have added another Englishman to their coaching stable with Peter Moores, who has been brought on as men's head coach to replace club legend David Hussey.
Stars had a season to forget during the last edition of the tournament. With just six points in 14 games, the team finished last in the competition standings. The franchise hopes the coaching change will bring them some luck and possibly lead them to their first BBL title.
Moores has coached England in two separate stints, 2007-2009 and 2014-2015. Since taking office in 2017, he has had tremendous success in English county cricket, winning three county championships with Sussex and Lancashire, as well as two T20 Blast titles and a one-day title with Nottinghamshire. He will keep his job at Nottinghamshire.
It's a great honor: Moores
Following his appointment as Melbourne Stars head coach, Moores came forward to offer his thoughts on his new role. The 60-year-old said he is really looking forward to the opportunity and to working with the team over the next two seasons.
"It is a great honor to be named head coach of the Melbourne Stars for the next two seasons. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to work with some of the best players in the world but also to develop the rest of the squad to get this club back to where it belongs," Moores was quoted as saying by Melbourne Stars.
"I loved watching Big Bash from afar and can't wait to be a part of the competition and work with the squad," he added.
