The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) resold the rights of sixth edition of the largest franchise based domestic T20 tournament of the country - the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

PCB opens financial details of franchises, fumed PSL teams

For the next seven years, PSL franchise rights will belong to Multan Consortium, led by Ali Khan Tareen, whose bid exceeded the base price of USD 5.21 million per year. Tareen, later said,

"PSL is a platform through which we can showcase our [south Punjab's] talent to the whole world. Previously, players regularly from south Punjab used to come in the national side. We will discover and foster talent that can become part of the national team."

Tareen, who belongs to the ruling party in power of Pakistan, Tehreek-e-Insaf said how the plan to bid for the rights came up. "Last year when Multan Sultans was sold for $5.2m, I felt it was overpriced. A year later, owners failed to pay the PCB, leading to new bids. To keep the team in south Punjab, I planned to bid, expecting a price around $4m. But, there's news that it will cross $5m. Now I am reconsidering,” he said. Tareen also added, "Obviously, the news that some bidders will cross $5m are just rumors. Some group even told me they're bidding $7m! People made similar claims last year but no one's initial bid was over $5m." The fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League will begin on February 14 next year in the United Arab Emirates.
