Sri Lanka have beaten Afghanistan by 9 wickets on Wednesday (14th February) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele. Pathum Nissanka's fantastic 118 and Avishka Fernando's 91 off only 66 deliveries helped them chase down 267 runs at ease.
Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Coming out to bat, Afghanistan had a stable opening partnership as they added 39 runs on opening stand before Ibrahim Zadran was ran out. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a fluent 48 off 57 balls, while Rahmat Shah made a fantastic 65 off only 77 deliveries.
Skipper Shahidi failed miserably as he could manage only 5 runs off 8 balls. In the middle, Azmatullah Omarzai's handy 54 off 59 balls helped Afghanistan post 266 runs after alloted 50 overs.
In reply, Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando put on a show there. The opening stand was worth of 173 runs only inside 23 overs. Avishka Fernando literally teared apart the Afghan bowling lineup and he raced to 91 off only 66 deliveries before falling to a false shot off Qais Ahmed. But Pathum Nissanka didn’t stop the carnage.
Nissanka notched up his well deserved hundred and made a solid 118 off 101 deliveries. After the fall of both of the openers skipper Kusal Mendis took the charge and scored a quick-fire 40 off only 29 deliveries to take Sri Lanka home for a clean sweep.
