With a comfortable 50-run win over Gulshan Cricket Club, Abahani Limited kept up their good play in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2024-25. The current champions took a confident step forward in their quest to keep the title with this win.
The key to the win was a great effort from Parvez Hossain Emon, who scored 83 runs while staying calm. He was helped by careful bowling that kept Gulshan from getting going.
When Abahani lost the toss and had to bat, he got off to a bad start when Shahriar Kamal was out early for just 2. But Emon, who came in at No. 3, made a key stand with Jishan Alam to calm everyone down.
When Jishan was out for 26, Emon kept playing his smooth game. Abahani's score was built around his impressive 83 off 70 balls, which included 8 fours and 4 sixes.
A good score of 278 runs was scored by Abahani in 49.5 overs, thanks in part to Mohammad Mithun's 45 and late contributions from Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby (22) and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury (26).
Gulshan lost four wickets for just 25 runs in 10 overs while chasing 279, including talented U19 cricketers Zawad Abrar and Azizul Hakim Tamim.
Sakib Shahriyar (42) and Shahadat Hossain tried to recover, but Abahani's bowlers kept up the pressure. As soon as Shakib died, Nihaduzzaman took over, and he fought bravely with a perfect 82.
Even though he tried hard, Gulshan couldn't fix the problems that started early. He ended with 228/8 in 50 overs, 50 runs short of the score.
