The winds of change have touched all sectors of Bangladesh, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Amidst this shift, an emergency meeting has been scheduled by the BCB for Wednesday (August 21).
Current BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon is expected to attend the meeting virtually from abroad, where he has been staying since the fall of the Awami League government. Earlier reports indicated that Papon was willing to resign from his post, and this meeting may bring forth his official decision.
The meeting will be held at the National Sports Council (NSC) and will involve current BCB officials. Notably, BCB Director Jalal Yunus has already resigned.
On Monday (August 19), Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud visited the BCB headquarters. He had previously stated that if Nazmul Hassan Papon continues to abstain from his official duties, an interim president might be appointed.
Regarding Papon’s potential resignation, Asif commented, “We have seen reports in the media about the resignation of the BCB President and directors. However, we have not received any formal confirmation. We are in discussions with various stakeholders, cricket organizers, and former cricketers to find a suitable resolution to this matter.”
This emergency meeting is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future leadership of the BCB.
