In the first game of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2024 season, Dhanmondi Sports Club beat Brothers Union by four wickets.  The winning run came from captain Nurul Hasan Sohan, who scored an unbeaten fifty to lead his team to victory.

Brothers Union made a good score of 262/5 in 50 overs when they batted first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.  Mahfijul Islam Robin scored 84 runs, which was the most important score. Mizanur Rahman added 73 runs before getting hurt and having to leave the game.  An important fifty was also scored by Imtiaz Hossain.

Brothers got off to a good start with a combination of 99 runs in the first over. At one point, they were 172/1.  But Dhanmondi's bowlers slowed things down. Kamrul Islam Rabbi claimed two wickets to make it hard for the other team to score.

Habibur Rahman Sohan scored 32 off 30 balls to give Dhanmondi an early boost as they tried to catch up to 263 runs.  Ashiqur Rahman Shibli was out for 23 runs, but Fazle Mahmud Rabbi (55 runs) and Yasir Ali (41) kept the game going.

But when both hitters in a set left, leader Nurul Hasan Sohan took over.  When he was under a lot of stress, he kept calm and played a match-winning performance of 58 off 53 balls, which gave his team the win with eight balls to spare.  Ziaur Rahman (19* off 24) was very important at the end.

Yeasin Arafat Mishu, who took three wickets for Brothers Union, was their best bowler.
