Quicks Anrich Nortje and Shabnim Ismail were named South Africa's male and female cricketers of the year at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards, held in Midrand on Friday.

Pacers Anrich Nortje and Shabnim Ismail were named South Africa's male and female cricketers of the year respectively at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards, held in Midrand on Friday 7 July. Notably, the recently retired Ismail won her third player of the year title, while this was Nortje's second win. Both cricketers were phenomenal for South Africa last year and deservedly secured their place at the top of the table.

The recently retired Ismail had accumulated eight wickets in six games with a saving rate of 5.86 as South Africa reached a home final of the T20 World Cup in February. Nortje has been a force in all formats for South Africa, while his partner Kagiso Rabada was named men's Test cricketer of the year. Temba Bavuma scooped the men's ODI Player of the Year award, while the men's T20I award went to Reeza Hendricks, who hit two straight half centuries at home against the West Indies in March.

Nonkululeko Mlaba was named Women's T20I Player of the Year while Laura Wolvaardt won the Women's ODI Player of the Year award. Mlaba, 23, is a frequent bowler on the power play in T20Is, and at the home T20 World Championship earlier this year, she recorded six wickets in as many games with a 24.16 average and a batting average of 6.59.

MLC-tied Gerald Coetzee was named Men's Newcomer of the Year. Coetzee had made both his Test and ODI debuts in March of that year. In just his second Test, the 22-year-old fast bowler picked up a match haul of six wickets to cap South Africa's home Test summer and World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with a 284-run victory over the West Indies in Johannesburg. Coetzee was also Faf du Plessis' favorite bowler at the Joburg Super Kings during the first SA20 earlier in the year.

"On behalf of Cricket South Africa, I would like to congratulate all winners on their awards," said Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki. “There have been so many strong performances and outstanding candidates for awards this past season; that really made the jury's job extraordinarily difficult.”

"We've seen real improvement from all of our national teams over the past season, the proof of that is the results."
