Sri Lanka have completely thrashed New Zealand by an innings and 154 runs to whitewash the visitors on Sunday (September 29) in Galle. Kamindu Mendis' exceptional 182* with Prabath Jayasuriya's deadly spells wrack havocked the Kiwis.

The result was already determined after New Zealand's surrender to the Lankan spinners in the first innings, where they were bundled out for a paltry 88 runs. After another disaster start to their second innings, Tom Blundell and Daryl Mitchell stood tall and added 95 runs to the tally to give an answer to the Lankan spinners. However, the duo couldn’t make long innings as they both departed after scoring solid fifties.

And then Mitchell Santner pushed the match more but not in any positive results. Santner made 67 before falling to Nishan Peiris.

Nishan Peiris was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 6 wickets to ran riot through the Kiwi batting lineup, Prabath Jayasuriya the Galle boy had three wickets as Sri Lanka handed the visitors another thrashing defeat.

With this victory, the Lankans have solidified their chances for the WTC final in the next year ar the Lord's as they're fighting with Australia for the second spot now.

Kamindu Mendis was adjusted as the player of the match and Prabath Jayasuriya was named as the player of the series for his stellar shows in Galle.
