Babar Azam's first Test as Pakistan captain has resulted in a seven-wicket victory against South Africa inside four days in Karachi. Nauman, Yasir heroics hand Pakistan 1-0 lead

In the second session of day four of the first Test, Pakistan successfully chased down a low total of 88 in 22.5 overs. Fawad Alam, who scored a ton in the first innings, brought the win with a boundary. Babar made 39-ball 30 while Azhar Ali remained unbeaten on 31* off 47. Anrich Nortje dismissed openers Abid Ali and Imran Butt in the first over after lunch. The pair of Babar and Azhar ensured the hosts get over the line. Earlier in the day, left-arm spinner Nauman Ali completed a debut five-wicket haul. He ran through the South African tail as the Proteas lost the last four wickets for 11 runs. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah took a four-for Nauman (34 years and 111 days) became the oldest Pakistani debutant to take a Test five-for. South Africa's second innings score of 245 was too short for a big lead after being 158-run behind. Aiden Markram was the top-scorer, who departed on 74 on day three. Temba Bavuma stuck around with the lower-order batsmen, scoring 40 runs off 93 balls. This was South Africa's first international match since 2007. The second Test will take place in Rawalpindi starting from February 4. Pakistan have now displaced South Africa to take No.5 position in the World Test Championship standings. However, none of the two can make it to finals.
