Nazmul Shanto scored dual hundred of the test match became the only second batter in the history of Bangladesh to score centuries in both of the innings in a single test match.
Back in 2018 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium against Bangladesh's arch rival Zimbabwe Mominul Haque named himself as the first batter of Bangladesh to score hundreds in both innings. He made 176 off 214 deliveries in the first innings, while his second innings' tally was 105 off 174 balls. He made total 281 in a single test match and that was the highest that time for Bangladesh.
After exactly five years, in 2023 against Afghanistan at the home of Cricket of Bangladesh, Shere Bangla Mirpur Cricket Stadium Najmul Shanto touched the feat of Mominul Haque with his majestic dual centuries in both innings.
Najmul Shanto, the number three batter of Bangladesh stitched a record breaking partnership of 212 with Mahmudul Hasan Joy and throughout the passage of play Shanto notched up his 3rd century in test cricket and overall made a majestic 146 off only 175 deliveries at a jaw dropping strike rate of 83.3. He was at his best in stroke making and kept the loose deliveries away and was dealing in boundaries, didn't let the Afghan bowlers to get settled against him.
His second innings hundred was way more fluent than the one of first. The fluency came from the over of Ahmadzai where he went for 4 boundaries on the trot yesterday. And today he started exactly from where he left things off. Notched up his hundred and is batting on 112* off only 133 balls at a slightly better strike rate than the first one of 84.2 (till lunch). And with the both centuries he became the only second batter of Bangladesh to score hundreds in both innings of a single test match. He has scored 258 runs already and in a position to break the record of Mominul's 281 runs in a single test match, which is highest in the history of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh in commanding position of Dhaka test as they leading Afghanistan by 491 runs after they bundled Afghanistan for a paltry total of 146 only with the help of Bangladesh's pacers and spin duo.
