Bangladesh women’s cricket team was initially set to host the T20 World Cup on home soil, but the tournament has now been relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Despite the unexpected change, spinner Nahida Akter remains unfazed and is focused on leading her team to victory.
During a press conference on Monday, Nahida shared her thoughts on the venue shift, emphasizing that while it was disappointing not to play in Bangladesh, the change is something the team has accepted. "It wasn't in our control. We had hoped to play the World Cup at home, which every player dreams of. But we’ve played in Abu Dhabi before, and the wickets there are quite similar. We'll give it our all," she said confidently.
Nahida also stressed the team’s determination to succeed, saying, "Of course, we’re expecting to win. We will do everything we can to win our matches."
Reflecting on Bangladesh’s recent 4-1 victory over Sri Lanka's 'A' team in a five-match T20 series, Nahida expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly highlighting the form of their batters. "In the recent series against Sri Lanka, our batters were in good rhythm. They scored well, allowing us bowlers to defend those totals. I believe this experience will help us in the World Cup."
She added, "My team expects me to deliver, and I will try my best to meet those expectations. Alhamdulillah, we played five matches in Sri Lanka, and both our batters and bowlers are in great shape."
Bangladesh have been drawn into Group B for the T20 World Cup, where they will face strong teams like England, South Africa, Scotland, and the West Indies. Their campaign kicks off on October 3rd with a match against Scotland. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. Group A features Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
