A blazing fifty from Naeem Islam powered Gulshan Cricket Club to a thrilling 3-wicket win over Gazi Group Cricketers in a rain-affected match in the Super League phase of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL). Thanks to the DLS method, Gulshan chased down a revised target of 162 with just two balls and three wickets to spare.
The match, held at BKSP’s Ground 4, saw Gulshan win the toss and opt to bowl first under overcast skies. Gazi Group managed 110/3 in 23.3 overs before rain interrupted play.
Openers Munim Shahriar (29 off 25) and Sadikur Rahman (36 off 56) provided a steady start, while Shamsur Rahman (32* off 52) and Sabbir Hossen (10* off 5) kept the scoreboard ticking in the final overs. The innings was cut short due to rain, which eventually shortened the match to 22 overs per side.
From Gulshan's bowling unit, Nihaduzzaman and Shahadat Hossain picked up one wicket apiece.
In response, Gulshan Cricket Club got off to a flying start. Mahedi Hasan smashed 43 off 24 balls, and Alif Hasan Emon added 35 off 33, laying a solid foundation.
But it was Naeem Islam who stole the spotlight. Coming in at No. 4, Naeem played a breathtaking 56-run knock off just 33 balls, striking with power and precision to bring the chase within reach.
Despite some late hiccups, Gulshan crossed the finish line with two balls and three wickets in hand, securing a much-needed win in the Super League.
For Gazi Group, Sheikh Parvez Jibon was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, while Abu Hossain chipped in with 2 wickets.
