Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has voiced strong criticism against the Pakistan cricket team management for their handling of his son, Azam Khan. According to Moin, Azam's confidence has suffered due to the inconsistency and swift decisions made by the selectors and team management.

Azam, who played only one match during the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA, was dismissed for a duck in the opening game against the USA. Despite being Pakistan’s initial choice for wicketkeeping and batting, he was dropped from the playing XI after this solitary appearance. Moin Khan expressed his disappointment, stating, "I watched the entire World Cup and the matches leading up to it, and it seemed like Azam was the number one choice for wicketkeeping and batting. Then suddenly, after just one match, the entire strategy was changed."

Moin believes that such abrupt changes are detrimental to player development. "Any player can get out on the first ball, but the tradition of developing players that used to exist is no longer there," he added. Moin also highlighted the lack of support from the management, which he believes is crucial for nurturing young talent.

Additionally, Moin addressed the ongoing criticism of Azam’s fitness. While acknowledging some validity to the concerns, he pointed out that Azam has been working diligently to improve his physical condition with his trainer, Shehzar Mohammad. "Azam has been working hard to improve his fitness, even taking his trainer to the Caribbean Premier League. I hope he has learned a lot from this experience," Moin further said.

Moin also took the opportunity to voice his support for Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was controversially removed from the T20I captaincy after just one series. Moin described Shaheen as an excellent leader and suggested that removing him was unjust. "Shaheen Afridi has the ability to lead the team and is highly liked by the players. He is an excellent choice for captaincy in T20s," Moin said. He further advocated for a consistent captaincy across formats to avoid disrupting team performance.
