On Tuesday, all-rounder Mohammed Nabi became the first player in Afghanistan's history to reach 5,000 runs in international competition. The 38-year-old did so during his team's match against Sri Lanka in the group stage of the Asia Cup in 2023.

Nabi scored 65 runs off of 32 balls, which was a huge help in the crucial run chase. There were six fours and five sixes in his innings, for an incredible strike rate of 203.12.

Nabi has played in 259 international matches, scoring 5,011 runs at an average of 24.56 runs per match and achieving a strike rate of 99.22 percent. In 238 innings, he has recorded the highest score of 116 and has also achieved a century and 21 fifty-point scores.

Mohammad Shahzad (4,811 runs in 156 matches) and Asghar Afghan (4,246 runs in 195 matches) are in second and third place, respectively, when it comes to run scoring for Afghanistan in international cricket.

However, despite Nabi's magnificent batting, Afghanistan was eliminated from the Asia Cup after losing their match against Sri Lanka by 2 runs.
