Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 24 runs on Friday (3rd May) at the Wankhede Stadium. Venkatesh Iyer's gutsy 70 and then Mitchell Starc's late heroics of 3 wickets in the single over sealed the game for KKR, which helped them consolidate their second position in the table.

This is Kolkata's first win at the Wankhede after 12 years. 
Being asked to bat first, KKR had no clue infront of Nuwan Thushara as he ran riot through the KKR top order and left them stutter at 28-3. He picked up all these wickets of Phil Salt, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and captain Shreyas Iyer. MI captain Hardik then had Sunil Narine and KKR were reduced to 43-4. But Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey came to rescue KKR from the verge of gliding down to the abyssal.

The duo added 83 runs off 62 balls to steer the ship of KKR. Venkatesh Iyer scored a gutsy 70 off 52 balls, with the help of 3 sixes and 6 delightful boundaries. While, his partner Manish scored 42 off 31 balls helped KKR post 169 on the board.

Nuwan Thushara was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3 wickets, while Bumrah also haf 3 wickets to his name, conceding just 18 runs. Hardik Pandya sneaked away with 2 wickets.

In reply, Mitchell Starc gave a solid start for KKR as he removed Ishan Kishan earlier on. Narine had Rohit for a sluggish 11 off 12 balls, Varun Chakravarthy removed Naman Dhar and reduced MI for 46-3.

Suryakumar Yadav showed a ray of hope to Mumbai Indians as he smacked a fantastic 56 off just 35 balls but got out to Andre Russell in a crucial juncture of the chase, while Hardik once again failed to capitalise on his chances.

Tim David was on the charge in the 19th over as he smoked a six to Starc, but Starc came back superbly as he got David first and then had Piyush Chawla and Gerald Coetzee in that penultimate over to seal the match for KKR.
KKR won the game by 24 runs and this win have fueled KKR to number 2 among the 10 teams in the tournament.
