New Zealand have managed to get 315 runs, losing 9 wickets after the end of day one in Hamilton. Fifties from Tom Latham and Mitchell Santner helped the Blackcaps get over 300. While English bowlers kept chipping awya with wickets, with Matthew Potts and Gus Atkinson picking up three wickets each.

Being inserted to bat first, the Blackcaps openers stitched a sensational 105 runs on the opening stand with skipper Tom Latham notching up a fine fifty and Will Young made a fine 42 off 92 deliveries before falling to Gus Atkinson.

Matthew Potts, however, removed Tom Latham after his 63 and brought England back into the game. Kane Williamson started fluently before Potts knocked him over just 6 short of his fifty.

Wickets were falling in a cluster as the Kiwis middle order collapsed horribly before Mitchell Santner stood tall for a brisk 50* off 54 deliveries. Tim Southee made a quick-fire 23 off 10 deliveries as New Zealand made 315/9 after the end of the day one.

Matthew Potts and Gus Atkinson shared three wickets each, while Brydon Carse had two wickets to his name.

New Zealand batters got starts but couldn’t prolong their innings as England kept chipping away with wickets.
