The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) re-appointed Mark Coles as head coach of the women's national cricket team on Monday.

Mark Coles is back as the head coach of the Pakistan women's team and will join the team on their ongoing tour of Australia. The New Zealander takes over from interim head coach Saleem Jaffar, who originally worked as the team's bowling coach alongside former Pakistan international Taufeeq Umar as batting coach.

The PCB, under a new management committee headed by Najam Sethi, has signed Coles to a one-year deal. He previously served as head coach from 2017 to 2019 when he resigned from his role citing family commitments.

"We're bringing back Mark Coles as coach of the women's team," Sethi had said. "We need to get foreign coaches to end the culture of favoritism."

Pakistan has already named its squads for the Australian tour and the Women's World Cup, with fast bowler Diana Baig leading the Pakistan bowling squad in both the ODIs and T20Is. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal, who emerged during Coles' earlier tenure, has become an automatic choice in both formats. Pakistan reached the semi-finals of the T20 Asia Cup in Bangladesh in October this year, beating their arch-rivals India in a thriller after losing to Thailand early in the tournament.

The Pakistani women's team plays a three-game ODI and T20I series against Australia from January 16-29, after which the team travels to South Africa for the women's T20 World Cup.

The coach of the Pakistan men's team, Mickey Arthur, is also reportedly set to return to his former position. He is now under contract with Derbyshire County for three years.
