Bangladesh had a rocky start to the day, losing two set batters, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim, in the same over. Shortly after, Litton Das also departed, leaving the team reeling at 112/6, and facing the prospect of an innings defeat. However, a remarkable partnership between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Jaker Ali rescued the side. Zakir played a gritty knock of 58 off 111 balls, while Miraz remains unbeaten on 87 from 171 deliveries. Thanks to their efforts, Bangladesh now have a lead of 81 runs with three wickets still in hand.

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj praised the duo for their resilience. In the post-day press conference, Maharaj said, "I think yesterday was probably the day that we went a little bit searching (for wickets), if I'm honest. And then we got the three wickets, and I think Mehidy and Jaker Ali played really well. We threw everything at them, and I don't think it was a case of us taking our foot off the gas. I think they played really well, and you must give credit towards the batters in that situation.”
