Punjab Kings (PBKS) pace bowler Lockie Ferguson will be missing the rest of IPL 2025, bowling coach James Hopes said before the game against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Ferguson had injured himself in Punjab's last IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and was unable to deliver his first over. Pacer Lockie Ferguson, who strained his left hamstring bowling against Sunrisers Hyderabad, is set to miss the rest of IPL 2025.

"Ferguson is out for an indefinite period, and the chances of us getting him ready for the latter part of the tournament are very remote. I believe he has suffered a serious injury," said James Hopes, Punjab Kings' fast bowling coach, a day prior to the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Mullanpur.

This will be a setback for PBKS, considering right-hander pace, which could not be challenged by other bowlers.

The Punjab Kings have a few alternatives in their roster to fill the New Zealander's shoes, such as Australian seamer Xavier Bartlett. Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai is also an alternative. Nevertheless, they have alternatives in their Indian roster too, such as Vijaykumar Vyshak, who performed well in the opening game of the season. Vyshak did not play for PBKS thereafter. Yash Thakur was another alternative that PBKS played against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Ferguson's new injury is a big setback for the pace man, who was out of the Champions Trophy for New Zealand after injuring his hamstring in the ILT20 earlier this year. He had also injured his calf at the end of 2024. For the Punjab Kings, the injury comes at a time when they have been having a mediocre season with three wins and two losses in five matches.
