Stepping into the role in Rohit Sharma's absence, Rahul emphasized the importance of backing himself and practicing to adapt to the position. His 77-run knock in the second innings of the first Test at Perth played a crucial role in India’s commanding 295-run victory.
In a light-hearted moment during a press conference, Rahul was asked if he had been informed about his batting position for the upcoming pink-ball Test in Adelaide. He responded humorously, saying, “I have been told, but I have also been told not to share. You will have to wait for Day 1 or maybe when the captain comes here tomorrow.”
Speaking on his mindset as an opener, Rahul explained, "I try to keep it really simple. The new ball does a lot. So you need to respect the first 20-25 overs and try to soak in the pressure... If you get through that period, batting becomes pretty normal wherever you are in the world."
He further added, "I've played in different conditions, and when you do well away from home or in pace-friendly conditions, you gain confidence. It's about managing those first 20-25 overs, playing the ball late, and waiting for the bowlers to come to you."
India will face Australia in the second Test, beginning December 6 in Adelaide, and Rahul’s form will be key to India's prospects as they look to extend their lead in the series.
