England pacer Jofra Archer may participate in the T20 World Cup this year, but he will not play test cricket again until 2025, per England managing director Rob Key.

Archer's 2023 campaign was marred by setbacks, both during his IPL tenure with the Mumbai Indians and his England duty as a travelling reserve for the ODI World Cup later in November for a week. In consequence, England have chosen to manage his return to action in a more gradual and regulated fashion.

Key withdrew Archer from the IPL this year in order to more closely monitor his rehabilitation, and his progress thus far has generated optimism. Archer will have sufficient time to recover before the five-match series with Pakistan commences on May 22. However, due to the ICC provisional squad deadline of May 1, it is possible that he will have been named to the World Cup selection prior to that date.

"Absolutely," Key responded to Sky Sports News's question about whether Archer is being considered for the World Cup team.

"Jofra, he's been out on Sussex's pre-season out in India. He bowled quickly out there, he bowled really well. He's now just gone back in the Caribbean, where he is going to play a little bit of club cricket, stuff like that - all about getting himself ready for that World T20. He'll play hopefully the Pakistan series. But it's always fingers crossed at the moment with Jofra."
