England have received a major set back ahead of the fourth Ashes Test after veteran pacer James Anderson was ruled out of the final two Tests on account of calf injury. [caption id="attachment_127964" align="alignnone" width="1280"] James Anderson ruled out of Ashes 2019

Photo: Somerset County Gazette[/caption] The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have confirmed on Friday that England's leading wicket-taker, who also missed the previous two Test matches, felt calf pain while playing for Lancashire second XI against Durham. ECB statement regarding James Anderson's injury is,

"England and Lancashire seamer James Anderson has been ruled out for the rest of the Specsavers Ashes series.

Whilst bowling in the ninth over on Thursday in Lancashire’s second XI four-day friendly against Durham at Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club, Anderson became aware of right calf pain following on from 20 overs he had bowled on Tuesday. “He immediately sought a medical assessment from Lancashire and was withdrawn from the remainder of the game. Further review with the ECB medical team has confirmed that he will be unavailable for the remaining two Ashes Tests.” Somerset's Craig Overton has been named in England's 13-man squad for the fourth Test at Old Trafford. Overton is the only addition in the unchanged squad that was named for the third Test at Headingley in which England registered a thrilling one wicket win after Ben Stokes revived his team with a stunning unbeaten century. The win helped the hosts to level the series at 1-1 after they lost the series opener in Edgbaston and the second Test at Lord’s also ended in a draw. Overton so far played three Tests and one ODI for England. He last played an international match in June 21, 2018. However Overton is unlikely to feature at Old Trafford, with Sam Curran became the favorite to enter into the playing eleven while Chris Woakes is the most likely to be included. The fourth Test begins in Manchester on September 4th.
