Tom Moody, a former Australian cricket player, thinks that Delhi Capitals (DC) should pick Prithvi Shaw over Ricky Bhui for their next Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) games.
Prithvi ShawMoody said that even though Shaw
hasn't been very good in the last few seasons, picking him over Bhui is a
better idea because he has played international cricket before.
“It doesn’t make sense due to the fact that you’ve got an Indian international player (Prithvi Shaw) in the dugout. Yes, he hasn’t performed in the IPL like we had all hoped he would, but you can’t score runs from the dugout,” speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Moody said.
Prithvi Shaw didn't play in Delhi's first two games of the season. Ricky Bhui is a big name in domestic cricket, but he hasn't taken advantage of his chances. He scored 3 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and 0 runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
After Prithvi Shaw had a string of bad games in IPL 2023, he was looked at more closely. In the end, he only scored 106 runs in eight games, which is an average of 13.25. In local cricket, he looked good. In the Ranji Trophy 2023–24, he scored 451 runs in nine games, with an average of 50.11.
Ricky Bhui was out against Rajasthan on Thursday after being caught behind for a duck. Nandre Burger hit a sharp drive that killed the right-handed batter. When Tom Moody talked about the decision, he said it showed the difference between domestic cricket and the IPL.
“That’s exactly what you’d like to see a genuine quick bowler to do. And to do it to a top order player is even more alarming. What it does also is highlight the jump between Ranji Trophy runs to international cricket and IPL,” Moody added.
