Gujarat Titans pacer Ishant Sharma was fined 25% of his match fee and one penalty point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday.
In a release, the IPL stated Ishant violated Article 2.2, which pertains to the improper use of cricket gear or apparel, ground equipment, or fixtures in a match. It was a Level 1 offence for which Ishant accepted and admitted the penalty from umpire Javagal Srinath.
Article 2.2 encompasses every act other than the usual in the game of cricket, such as kicking or hitting the wickets, and every act likely to, by intention, recklessness or negligence (including involuntary) damage, advertising hoardings, boundary fences, doors of dressing rooms, mirrors, windows and fittings. The offense can be made without limitation, for instance, if a cricketer hits his bat roughly out of agitation and injures an advertising hoarding," as per the rule.
It was a difficult day for Ishant Sharma on the field. He bowled all his four overs but did not get a single wicket and gave away 53 runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to score a total of 152 runs for 8, which was a bit less than what they expected. There were some small but crucial partnerships that assisted them in getting this kind of result.
Ishant has spent a costly IPL so far. He has leaked 107 runs off eight overs in three games and has taken a single wicket.
