The Indian national cricket team has suffered a double blow ahead of their ICC World Cup 2023 clash against the New Zealand national cricket team as star batters Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan faced some issues during the nets session on Saturday, October 21.
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan was stung by a honey bee during net practice ahead of India's next match against New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.
The 25-year-old reportedly faced Mohammad Siraj in the nets and abruptly left training after being stung. The southpaw threw his bat and rushed out of the nets as he was looked after by the physiotherapists for a few minutes.
Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are part of India's 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Kishan has played in two matches for India so far, but Suryakumar Yadav is yet to make his ODI World Cup debut.
Suryakumar is being backed by many to secure a place in the starting XI as Hardik Pandya picked up an injury and will miss a few games in the main tournament. However, Suryakumar Yadav's chances of playing in the World Cup have taken a hit as he suffered from injury scares during the net session.
While batting in the nets, Suryakumar Yadav was hit on his right wrist and immediately left the nets. According to journalist Lalith Kalidas, he was given an ice pack by the physiotherapist and later his entire wrist was taped.
Before Suryakumar's injury, India suffered a setback when wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was stung by a bee and left the nets in severe pain.
