Sri Lanka have postponed their scheduled one-off Test match at home against Ireland next year due to lack of television broadcast partner. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on Wednesday. Ireland-to-host-four-teams-before-World-Cup

Ireland-to-host-four-teams-before-World-Cup

Ireland were fixed to face Sri Lanka in a single Test match between 8-12 February 2020. SLC statement said, "Sri Lanka Cricket in consultation with Ireland Cricket decided to reschedule the tour to a later date to ensure that the proposed one off test match will come under the next broadcast agreement, which SLC is planning to sign with a prospective partner during the year 2020."

"The new dates of the tour will be announced, once confirmed," it added.

According to SLC, the tour was not part of Sri Lanka’s existing broadcast agreement, which was made in 2013 prior to Ireland became a Test nation. As per ICC regulations, all Test matches are required o be televised. However SLC has ensured that it will reschedule the Test match in a later date which would fall under their next broadcast agreement. The Cricket Ireland statement in this regard said, "SLC notified us of their preference to postpone the fixture last week, and we requested a swift announcement by SLC to notify travelling fans and media as quickly as possible of the postponement." “We have agreed to SLC’s request to reschedule the tour to a later date to ensure that the proposed one-off Test match will come under the next broadcast agreement, which SLC is planning to sign with a prospective partner during the year 2020. "The date for that rescheduled match will be announced in due course.” The news of the postponement has came just a day after Ireland cancelled their T20I series with Afghanistan and change their home Test with Bangladesh to a match of shortest format.
