Move over veterans Vaibhav Suryavanshi has arrived! The 14-year-old wonderkid made an electric debut for Rajasthan Royals in their match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Saturday, April 19.

Walking out as an Impact Sub Suryavanshi opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and smashed the first ball of his IPL career a delivery from Shardul Thakur straight over cover for a towering six.

Not only did Vaibhav light up the field with a quickfire 34 off just 20 balls but he also created history by becoming the youngest-ever debutant in IPL history at just 14 years and 23 days old. The teen sensation also shared a solid 85-run partnership with Jaiswal at the top setting the tone for the Royals’ chase.

Rajasthan Royals picked up Vaibhav for Rs 1.10 crore at the auction.

His coach, Manish Ojha, gave fans a sneak peek into Vaibhav’s off-field life and diet. In an interview with the Times of India, he said:

“Mutton nahi khana hai usko, instructions hain. Pizza hata diya hai uske diet chart mein se. He is just fond of chicken and mutton. He is a kid, so he used to love pizza a lot. But he doesn't eat it anymore. When we used to give him mutton, no matter how much we gave, he would finish all of it. That's why he looks a bit chubby.”

Coach Ojha is confident about the young batter’s future, saying:

“He will go a long way. We've seen the way he started the innings, and I can promise you he will score big in the coming matches. He's a fearless batter. He admires Brian Lara, but he’s a mix of Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara. His aggression is just like Yuvraj's.”

Ojha also shared a touching moment before the game. Vaibhav called him after a practice session, saying:

“(Rahul) Dravid sir and the management told him he’d be playing against Lucknow. He was elated, but nervous. I told him to stay calm and stick to his game. He said, ‘Chakke waala ball aayega to marunga, rukunga nahi’ If there’s a ball to be hit for six, I won’t hold back.”
