After many speculations, this year's IPL will be held in the United Arab Emirates. As a precaution, no spectators can sit on the field and enjoy the game. As a result, TV will be the main medium to watch IPL this time.
Meanwhile, Star Sports is in charge of broadcasting IPL. They have set high prices for advertisements by taking advantage of the TV reliance of the viewers. This time they have exceeded the price much in compare to previous few editions.
As per a report in Economic Times, Star Sports will charge 8-10 lakh rupees for every 10 seconds advertisement in this year's IPL.
Star Sports has paid INR 3,270 crores to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for broadcasting and digital rights for this year's IPL. Naturally, they would like to see a hefty profit from advertising, so the cost of displaying the ad is relatively high.
Last year, Star Sports earned INR 3,000 crore revenue from advertising alone. This time the broadcaster may surpass all previous records.
