Virat Kohli left the cricket world in shock on Saturday after announcing he was leaving India's Test format captain. The star-batter made the announcement on social media a day after India lost the three-game series to South Africa 2-1. Former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir took to Twitter to congratulate Virat Kohli on his outstanding stint as India Test captain. Amir said Virat Kohli is a "true leader" and an "inspiration for young cricketers".

“@imVkohli brother to me you are a true leader of the coming generation in cricket because you are an inspiration to young cricketers. keep rocking on and off the field," Amir wrote on Twitter.

Kohli is India's most successful Test captain when it comes to the number of wins in the longest format. He had led India in 68 Tests, recording 40 wins and a win ratio of 58.82.

Under Kohli's leadership in 2018, India made history by becoming the first Asian team to record a Test series win in Australia.

Under his leadership, India also remained at the top of the ICC Test Rankings for consecutive years, reaching the final of the ICC Test World Championship in 2021. However, India lost the WTC Finals to New Zealand.

Kohli also has an excellent home record as captain, leading the team to 24 wins in 31 games, losing just 2 games.

India are set to play their next friendly against Sri Lanka and BCCI are now tasked with finding a new captain for the longest format Indian team.
