India and the West Indies were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the inaugural T20I on August 3 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Stadium in Tarouba.

West Indies and India were fined for slow overruns during the first T20I game, held in Trinidad on August 3.

During the first T20I match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Stadium in Tarouba, both Indian and West Indian cricket teams were penalized for failing to meet the required over-rate. The two teams failed to make the minimum exceedance quota in their respective bowling innings, resulting in fines.

India fell short during its innings of bowling, resulting in its game fees being reduced by five percent. The West Indies, meanwhile, fell two overs behind, resulting in a 10 per cent game fee deduction for their players.

The fines complied with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players' Agents, which relates to minimum odds violations. Under the law, players are fined five percent of their game fee if their team does not bowl within the allotted time, with a cap of 50 percent of the game fee.

Pandya and Powell pleaded guilty to the offenses and accepted the proposed sanctions, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. Field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard, third umpire Nigel Duguid, and fourth umpire Leslie Reifer balanced the attack.

Despite the penalty, the West Indies team emerged victorious from the game, successfully defending a goal of 150 and limiting India to a score of 145/9.

The West Indies, led by Captain Powell, recorded a total of 149 runs on the board. Powell himself was the top scorer with 48 runs, while Nicholas Pooran contributed a valuable 41 runs. Despite two misses, Powell managed to navigate his team's innings with grit and determination. The Indian bowlers, notably Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh, put in a commendable performance, taking two wickets each.

In response, the Indian team struggled to get going. Their openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill had no effect.

However, debutant Tilak Varma stood out with an impressive 39 runs from 22 deliveries. Despite his efforts, the Indian team fell four runs behind to finish with a score of 145/9 in 20 overs.
