India's most recent tour of Sri Lanka for a bilateral white-ball series was in July 2021, with Rahul Dravid serving as the stand-in coach and Shikhar Dhawan as the captain for both series. India triumphed in the ODI series 2-1, while Sri Lanka won the T20I series by the same margin.
This will be India's second T20I series after their T20 World Cup victory, following their ongoing tour of Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka, having been eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup, have had their players competing in the LPL 2024 since then.
