Imrul Kayes, a consistent figure in Bangladesh cricket for 18 years, recently bid farewell to red-ball cricket. At a press conference following his announcement, the veteran opener shared heartfelt insights, naming Tamim Iqbal as his favorite opening partner and Shakib Al Hasan as the finest captain he has played under.

Imrul and Tamim forged a formidable opening partnership in both Tests and ODIs, setting numerous records. Reflecting on their chemistry, Imrul said, "Tamim and I were the most successful. I enjoyed batting with him the most."

The understanding between the two made their partnership thrive. Imrul added, "I never hesitated to share my strengths and weaknesses with him. During tough phases, I’d tell him, and he’d adjust accordingly. This level of communication is crucial for a good partnership."

One standout moment in their career came during the 2015 World Cup. Despite personal struggles, Imrul and Tamim combined to save a Test match under grueling conditions. Imrul recounted, "After a tough match, Tamim told me we could draw the game if we just pushed a little harder. That belief kept us going."

When discussing captains, Imrul didn’t hesitate to declare Shakib Al Hasan as the best. The 37-year-old attributed Shakib’s success to his clear communication and tactical mindset. "Shakib always discussed roles and strategies openly with me. Under his captaincy, I truly understood my responsibilities," Imrul remarked.

Having played under several Bangladeshi captains, including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Ashraful, and Mashrafe Mortaza, Imrul singled out Shakib for his ability to inspire clarity and confidence in players.
