Bangladesh, who ended the third day of the Dhaka Test with a 30-run lead, will want to set New Zealand a target of at least 200 or 220 runs. Although the wicket is still good for batting, spinner Nayeem Hasan believes Bangladesh can win with this total.

In reply to Bangladesh's 172 runs, New Zealand scored 180 runs before being bowled out in their first innings. In response, Bangladesh scored 38 runs in return for losing a pair of wickets, leading by 30 runs.

"The longer we bat it will be better for us. If we can score 200 to 220 runs we can defend the total. Today the batting was much easier than the first day. Now we are ahead and we need to have the momentum. This wicket is good for batting but we have to take the challenge,” Nayeem said.

Glenn Phillips' stormy innings of 87 runs was the main reason for New Zealand's lead. Facing just 72 balls on the same wicket as Mirpur, Phillips hit 9 fours and 4 sixes. But many others were struggling for each run on the same wicket.

Nayeem's explanation, "Look they have come here to play and there can be a partnership and someone can play well," said Nayeem when his attention was drawn about failing to take a lead. "Phillips played well so they could take the lead. Now at the end of the day we played well and have lead and if we can bat well we can score big.

"Look, everyone bats differently. Some bat long while there are others who play aggressive cricket. Today he (Phillips) is successful but whether he will be successful tomorrow or not no one knows, because tomorrow something else might happen."
