Usman Khan, a part of Pakistan's T20I team for the series against New Zealand, has spoken up about the hardships he has experienced throughout his cricket career.
Like ten other sons of ordinary families in the subcontinent, Usman Khan migrated to the Middle East. He took a job in a gas marketing company as a laborer in the United Arab Emirates.
But who has cricket in his blood, can he stay away from the game? He continued to play in various amateur tournaments in UAE. And in this case, the owner of his company appeared as a savior. With his support, Usman gradually gained fame, eventually getting a chance in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. He participated there as a local cricketer.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed the story of Usman's struggling life who was called to the New Zealand series team. There, Usman himself told how he came up in international cricket after choosing the life of a laborer in the Middle East to earn a living.
"My brother played first-class cricket for The Karachi Port Trust (KPT), and I followed suit. During the early stages of my career, I lived in a complex and focused solely on cricket," Usman told PCB digital.
But luck was not so helpful. After struggling to support his family, he went to the United Arab Emirates, while he was a worker there, he made a name for himself in cricket.
Usman added, "I worked as a laborer at Ajman Gas while continuing to play cricket. The support from the owner was instrumental in our team winning numerous local tournaments.”
Even after coming to the discussion, however, Usman had to continue the struggle. Despite doing well in BPL, PSL, T10 league, he established himself as a cricketer of the UAE as he did not get the attention of the Pakistan national team. Even he played PSL as a foreign cricketer. However, after a majestic performance in the PSL, he got a chance in the Pakistan national team, but in return, he had to cut ties with the UAE and received a ban.
