Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admits after the Sri Lanka win that it was the most tense game ever for him.

Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in a thriller on Saturday (8th June) at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. “I feel that way. We actually knew 2 days before. I think I have never played such a tensed match before. Thanks to God, we were able to win the game at the end of the day,” Shanto said.

Earlier, Sri Lanka started very well in the batting but they lost their way after the powerplay. Bangladeshi pacers- Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman bowled superbly with lot of variations at the start of the innings and during the death overs as well. While Rishad Hossain provided crucial breakthroughs in the middle over as he picked up Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga in consecutive deliveries to leave Sri Lanka stutter. In the end, Sri Lanka scored 124 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.

“I think Sri Lanka today the way they started batting, I think they started very well. But we came back strongly but after they finish their first innings they bowled really well. I think they showed lot of characters, all the fielders gave everything. But I think they scored bit less runs today,” Shanto added.

Shanto also says that they did not do well in bowling in the beginning but they made good decision after that for which Sri Lanka were able to score only 71 runs in the last 14 overs losing 7 wickets. However, Bangladesh’s batting wasn’t good, Shanto admits as they won the match by 2 wickets only.

“We all knew how important this match was for us. We did not start well in bowling. After that the way everyone was calm, the way the decisions were taken by the bowler fielders in the middle overs, everyone showed character here. We all know that the batting was not good. It will be like that in such a wicket or in a tense match because the match was so important for them (Sri Lanka) too. They also tried a lot. It feels good to get 2 points at the end of the day,” Shanto further said.
