The father of Rajasthan Royals skipper Samson Viswanath expressed his happiness at his son's call-up, but he also hinted that his son still has a long way to go before he can crack the starting XI, according to an article in the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).
“I have been waiting for this moment since 2013, and now he (Sanju) has finally crossed the first hurdle to make the 15-member India squad. The next step is to break into the playing XI, and after that runs should flow from his bat. When this happens, I will be truly happy,” said Samson Viswanath, Sanju’s father.
In order to give his children a chance at a career in the sport, Samson's father shared some of the sacrifices he had made. According to him, Sanju is more of a team player than an individualist.
“I quit my job to ensure that my two sons play cricket. I have been waiting for this moment for long. Sanju always plays for the team, not for himself,” added Viswanath.
Sanju Samson has been in superb in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). He has scored 385 runs till now with an average of 77.0.
“He was trying to hit every ball for the maximum… But this season we are seeing a different Sanju. Now I am waiting to see him score runs for the country. Sanju has been working very hard and we are all waiting eagerly to see him perform,” Sanju’s father further said.
