Bangladesh top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto started his career with utter disappointment. But he turned around his career dramatically in the last one year. He has been the most consistent performer for Bangladesh in recent times and makes himself the backbone of the batting unit.

Shanto reveals to Cricbuzz that he worked on his skills which helped him to turn around his form. Now he’s more hungry as he says that as a No. 3 batter 50, 60 or 70 runs aren’t enough, so he wants to score a century and a win for the team.

He said, “If I see batsmen playing at number three worldwide, I don't feel that 50, 60, or 70 runs is a good standard. So I bat thinking about a hundred. At the same time, there is some pressure from my coach, and I feel it is necessary because it makes sure that I cannot be happy thinking that I still haven't completed my duty. It is not about a personal goal because what I feel is that if I score 100 or 150, in that case, my team will go into a good position. In the Asia Cup, I scored 89 against Sri Lanka and we lost, while I scored 100 against Afghanistan and we won the game.

“I think it was a good innings, but honestly speaking, if I could score 130 runs, we could have won the game. But the way I built the innings was satisfying, and taking into consideration the way I survived the hard times in the middle, it was one of the best innings that I played in recent times. What I feel is the big players who bat in my position, they turn this 90 or 89 runs into 130 runs and help the team win the game, and I feel there is some lacking in this aspect of my game. I am working on it to do well in the future so that I can translate my nineties into 130 if I am in a similar situation.”
