On Tuesday (July 30), at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, the Sri Lankan national cricket team, captained by Charith Asalanka, faced off against the Indian national team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, in the third and last T20 International of India's 2024 tour to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka went into the third T20 International with a series deficit following their previous two losses. The hosts lost badly against the Men in Blue due to a lackluster performance by the squad in both bowling and batting.

From the recap of the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and bowled against India. The Men in Blue set a target in the first innings with all batters contributing. Gill scored the most runs for his squad. India reached 137/9 after 20 overs thanks to Riyan Parag and Washington Sundar in the death overs.

Maheesh Theekshana dominated Sri Lanka's four-over bowling attack, taking three wickets for 28 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets and conceded 29 runs. The hosts' Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis guided Sri Lanka to 137/8 in the last T20I game of the series and into the super over. Opener Pathum Nissanka supported while batting.

Rinku Singh and skipper Suryakumar Yadav grabbing two wickets each is the focus of the contest. The India captain protected six runs in the penultimate over to force a super over. Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar each captured two wickets.

After batting first, the hosts scored 2/2 in the super over. The match was ended by Suryakumar Yadav's sweep to short fine leg for four on the opening ball while pursuing.

Asalanka expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the middle-order and late middle-order players and their poor shot selection in his post-match interview. Washington Sundar bowled Charith Asalanka out in the 17th over for a golden duck.

He has high hopes for his team's performance in the one-day internationals against India as well.

"I am really disappointed about our batting line-up, especially middle-order and late middle-order. Very bad shot selection was the reason. Spinners were bowling that's why Hasaranga came up the order. We gave him the license to hit one or two boundaries, that didn't work for us. Wrong shot selection on this pitch. When the ball gets old, our shot selection should be spot-on, it's really hard to bat on these tracks. Definitely, we can't give excuses. As professional cricketers, we need to do little bit more than this. I want to see good batting performances in the ODIs, not like T20s. Our top three and four have done well and that's the only positive I have. Boys will do something better," Asalanka said.

The next three-match one-day international series will feature the Indian national cricket team and the Sri Lankan national cricket team. The dates set for the matches in Colombo are August 2, 4, and 7.
