Former England cricketer David Lloyd has reserved the highest respect for England's young cricketer Jamie Smith. Lloyd was particularly impressed with the way Jamie Smith went about his work against the West Indies in the third Test match at Edgbaston.

Jamie SmithThe veteran even went on to compare the wicketkeeper to Australian legend Adam Gilchrist. Jamie Smith brought the best out of himself in the dead rubber against the Caribbeans, by chipping in with 95 off 109 balls.

The wicketkeeper-batter pitched in with useful contribution down the batting order, wherein he struck a flurry of 12 fours and a six. He top-scored for the hosts and received a roaring response from the English crowd.

Unfortunately, he missed out on a well deserved century by five runs as Shamar Joseph rattled the batter's stumps. "I’ve heard a lot about Jamie Smith from some very knowledgeable people, but this weekend was the first time seeing him in the flesh," former England cricketer wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

"Wow, and double wow. I haven’t been on the edge of my seat like that since the days of Kevin Pietersen. Smith is going to be around a very long time. He’s going to take games away from the opposition. Shades of Adam Gilchrist," Lloyd said.

Talking about the game, the tourists posted 282 runs in the first innings and in reply, the hosts scored 376 runs. In the second innings, the visitors missed out on the trick and ended up scoring 175 runs, setting up a target of 82. The hosts chased down the target by 10 wickets and inflicted a 3-0 whitewash on the Caribbeans.
