Sri Lankan batter Harshitha Samarawickrama has replaced the injured Meg Lanning at Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women's Caribbean Premier League 2024. Samarawickrama becomes the only second from Sri Lanka Women's team to play overseas League.
Harshitha Samarawickrama becomes the only second Sri Lankan after Chamari Athapaththu to play in an overseas League. Chamari Athapaththu was the only Sri Lankan woman to play foreign leagues till Samarawickrama's signing at Trinbago Knight Riders. She was the Player of the Final with an unbeaten 69* off 51 balls in Sri Lanka's maiden title win at Women's Asia Cup 2024 against the Indian Women's Team. She followed that incredible knock with back-to-back fifties in the T20I series against Ireland Women's before becoming the only third woman to hit an ODI century for Sri Lanka with her 105 against Irish. Overall, she has 1463 runs in 65 T20Is at a fine strike rate of 99.72.
Meg Lanning on the contrary, had a lean patch at The Hundred 2024, playing for London Spirits Women's, who won the title. She managed to get just 170 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 125.
Trinbago Knight Riders Women's squad for WCPL 2024: Chedean Nation, Jannillea Glasgow, Jemimah Rodrigues, Kyshona Knight, Meg Lanning, Deandra Dottin (Captain), Samara Ramnath, Shikha Pandey, Zaida James, Kycia Knight (Wicket-keeper), Shunelle Sawh (Wicket-keeper), Anisa Mohammed, Jahzara Claxton, Jess Jonassen, Shamilia Connell.
The Knight Riders Women's will commence their WCPL 2024 campaign against Barbados Royals in Tarouba on Thursday (August 22).
