England are on top after the end of day 1 in Wellington Test. Harry Brook's another fantastic 123 and 66 from Ollie Pope helped the visitors get to a competitive total of 280 on the board. In reply, Brydon Carse ran riot to reduce New Zealand to 86-5.

Opting to bowl first, New Zealand were in the driver's seat in the morning session. Matt Henry removed Ben Duckett for a 8-ball duck and knocked over Zak Crawley cheaply. While Nathan Smith had Joe Root and Jacob Bethell as England were crumbling on 43-4.

But Harry Brook and Ollie Pope turned things around for the visitors, stitching up for a sensational 174-run stand together for the fifth wicket partnership. Harry Brook smashed another away Test hundred, while Ollie Pope supported him with a gritty fifty.

England's lower order had a mild collapse as England were all-out for 280 runs. Young paceman Nathan Smith was the pick of the bowlers as he had 4 wickets to his name, while William ORourke had 3 wickets.

In reply, New Zealand had to negotiate the last two hours and they succumbed against the English pacers. England kept taking wickets at regular intervals as the new ball was nipping away. Kane Williamson had a luck in Brydon Carse' over but didn’t mean too much as he was gone on 37.

New Zealand are reduced to 86-5 as they're trailing England by 194 runs. Brydon Carse currently is running riot with two wickets, while Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson had one wicket each.
