Afghanistan star all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has replaced Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Previously, Mitchell Marsh was encountered a setback in his IPL. The Aussie was sidelined for the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. This unfortunate turn of event saw Marsh journey back to Australia to address the partial tear in his right hamstring.
In the four games that Marsh featured for the franchise, he managed to gather only 61 runs, failing to deliver the explosive batting displays expected from him. His highest score of 20 against Punjab was followed by meager contributions of 23, 18, and a disappointing two-ball duck. In those following games he picked up only wicket in the IPL 2024 with the bowl.
Meanwhile, this will be Gulbadin Naib's first stint with IPL as he never had any contract before. Naib played 126 T20 matches and accumulated 1626 runs at an average of 20.4 and a strike rate of 120.8. In those matches he managed to get only 26 wickets.
However, Delhi haven't had a great run in this season of IPL. They just managed to win 4 games out of 9 they've played thus far. It is expected that Naib will be available for the team from the very next game against Mumbai Indians in a home fixture on Saturday (27th April).
