Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja gave an example of Imran Khan's briefest closing speech in 1992 to the current side on Friday ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup summit against England.
2009 champions Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the semifinals by seven wickets at SCG on Wednesday. Raja, a former Pakistani captain, advised players to simply enjoy the moment as they exit the packed Melbourne Cricket Ground with over 90,000 spectators.
Ramiz joined the squad in the dressing room as he motivated the players to lift the World Cup trophy for their fans at home. Ramiz appreciated the team's amazing fighting spirit and stated that the whole squad should be proud of the character they showed in their comeback to the mega event.
The 60-year-old also praised the national team's management, consisting of Saqlain Mushtaq, Mohammad Yousuf, Matthew Hayden and Shaun Tait, for keeping the squad's morale high despite a dismal start to the tournament.
Ramiz Raja also encouraged the men in green not to let themselves be pressured and advised them to remain confident and motivated.
"Don't think for yourself, don't say that only I am ready for this moment, everyone is ready for this moment, go and enjoy the atmosphere, every moment is important as it will not be repeated. Just relax, stay confident, keep your body language strong and you will achieve your destiny."
Pakistan are set to meet England in the T20 World Cup final on 13 November 2022 at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), suggesting the historic moments of 1992 will be repeated.
