A big blow for the Gujarat Titans (GT): Star all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been excluded from the 2025 IPL because of injury. reports that Phillips has headed back home after suffering a groin injury during the tournament
Glenn Phillips has parted ways with the Gujarat Titans. The precise nature of his abrupt departure remains unclear, but it is thought that the New Zealand all-rounder suffered a groin injury.
Phillips, who did not get to make a single start in his stint at GT, was brought in as a substitute fielder after the fifth over of the SRH innings but was limping off within minutes. He glov'ed the fourth delivery of that over, taken by Prasidh Krishna, and picked up a flick to the wicketkeeper as Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy took a quick single. He went down immediately holding his groin. "It seems that he strained his groin catching that delivery," we observed during our live blog.
Phillips is the second overseas player from the Titans team to be out of action. Kagiso Rabada went back to South Africa due to personal reasons, and there are no updates so far on his return to the team.
Currently, the Titans have just five overseas players in their team: Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat. Every franchise can have eight overseas players.
